Amara Karan was born to Sri Lankan parents who moved to England from Zambia. She was raised in Britain and although she loved acting she went the more reliable route of studying politics, philosophy, and economics at St Catherine’s College, Oxford. However, the acting bug was particularly virulent during her university years, as Amara found herself in stage plays like When We Are Married when she wasn’t studying. Even after she had graduated from Oxford and was working as an investment banker Amara continued to act and eventually decided to pursue an MA at Arts Educational Schools, London. Less than a month after graduating from drama school Amara auditioned for the role of Rita in Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited (2007). She landed the part–and symbolically landed on Mr. Skin‘s favorite part. In the whimsical dramedy, Amara stares down Jason Schwartzman while the audience stares into the mirror behind her, which reflects the top of her ass crack in an unfastened dress. Amarazing! Unfortunately this is the only nudity of Amara’s career. She dressed in skimpy attire for her follow-up film, St Trinian’s (2007), but cleavage and a bit of upper thigh meat are the best we get from this attractive actress. All these years later, Darjeeling remains Ms. Karan’s biggest credit, but she did receive additional mainstream attention via the TV shows Doctor Who, The Night Of, and The Twilight Zone. She was also a torch bearer for the 2008 Olympics. We have a different torch that we’d like Amara to hold.
